In the preparation of patent and design applications as well as in the examination proceedings, he applies the best practices, on which he lectures. The Enforcement of intellectual property rights and the defense of our clients in litigation are also part of Ingo’s areas of practice.

“What drives me is drafting and getting granted intellectual property rights that bring tangible benefits to our client’s business.“
Ingo Bauer

Dr. Ingo Bauer was born in Bonn in 1978, studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University, and was awarded the degree of “Diplom-Ingenieur“ in 2002. As a student, he gained experience in the fields of rapid prototyping at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT), control system integrated process monitoring for machine tools at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen, and process monitoring during laser welding at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT).

In 2000, he spent four months as exchange student at the Kyoto University of Technology in Japan.

In 2002, he started working as research assistant and doctoral candidate with focus on biomaterials at the Fraunhofer Center for Laser Technology (CLT) in the USA, at the Fraunhofer ILT in Aachen and at the Biomedical Materials and Engineering Research Center (BMEC) of the Wuhan University of Technology (WHUT) in China. His scope of research included laser joining of dissimilar biocompatible materials as well as preparation of biocompatible nanoparticles and investigation of their interactions with cancer cells.

In 2006, he was awarded the „Distinguished Student Award“ of WHUT for his academic achievements. In the same year, he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled „Interactions of biomimetic hydroxyapatite nanoparticles with liver cancer cells“ at WHUT and received his Ph.D. degree. In addition, he successfully completed a M.B.A. program.

After his Ph.D. graduation, Ingo began to work as Management Consultant in a renowned international management consultancy firm headquartered in Düsseldorf. But his passion for science and technology led him switch to the research and development department of a leading global medical device company in northern Germany, where he worked on the development of bioresorbable implants, electrical medical device components, and surgical instruments from the conception to market introduction.

After 4 years in R&D, Ingo began to work in the field of intellectual property protection and successfully completed the patent attorney apprenticeship for the admission as a German Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney and European Trademark and Design Attorney with stages at the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf, the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court. In the following year, Ingo gained his admission as a European Patent Attorney before the European Patent Office.

Ingo joined GILLE HRABAL in 2012 and enriches our IP law firm with his broad technological knowledge, his international background, his practical industry experience in the field of research and development, and his expertise in medical device technology. He became a Partner in 2019.

Ingo speaks German, English, French, and Chinese. He is married and has two children.
